THE DIVIANI FAMILY IN THE UK Some Diviani and Brentini families came to UK in the 1850's and opened up their own smaller restaurants mainly in London. When they had made their fortune they passed the premises onto another member of the family or a close relative to continue with tradition. The last restaurant in London bearing the Diviani name closed in 1970. Until recently there was a shop bearing the family name in the Ticino capital of Bellinzona, selling quality crystal and tableware. "Continental Taste" is a book written by Peter Barber and Peter Jacomelli, in conjunction with the Camden History Society, London. It explains all about the London Ticinese cafés and restaurants in more detail and is well worth a read. Unfortunately the numbers of people bearing the Diviani name have declined over the years. From a rough count I estimate that I know of only 100 people of the name worldwide, of whom, perhaps twenty or less are young enough to produce offspring and carry on the name of Diviani. THE DIVIANI FAMILY WORLDWIDE There are still Diviani and Brentini family members living in the villages of Campello and Calpiogna, Switzerland. Worldwide there are Divianis or their descendants living in: Argentina New Zealand Australia South Africa Brazil Spain France Sweden Germany Switzerland Italy United Kingdom USA The Brentini Family Connection |
